Este artículo reproduce un documento del Instituto de Medicina del Trabajo, creado el 16 de julio de 1973 en la Facultad de Medicina de la Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA), en el que se transcriben las intervenciones de Mario Testa, Alberto Ozores Soler y Ricardo Saiegh en la mesa redonda "La salud en las fábricas" realizada el 1º de agosto del mismo año. Las líneas que lo anteceden, escritas por Mario Testa, contextualizan el momento histórico y destacan el sentido de aquel proyecto que replanteaba el vínculo entre las universidades y la investigación, entre la enseñanza de la medicina y el papel de los médicos en la sociedad, temas que continúan siendo vigentes. Este documento fue recuperado del fondo Mario Testa, perteneciente al Centro de Documentación e Investigación Pensar en Salud (CEDOPS) del Instituto de Salud Colectiva de la Universidad Nacional de Lanús.

This article reproduces a document from the Instituto de Medicina del Trabajo [Institute of Occupational Medicine], created on July 16, 1973 in the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad de Buenos Aires. The document is a transcription of the interventions of Mario Testa, Alberto Ozores Soler and Ricardo Saiegh in the roundtable discussion "Health in factories" carried out on August 1 of the same year. The preceding lines, written by Mario Testa, puts into context that particular historical moment and the significance of the project, which sought to reconsider the relationship between the universities and research, between the teaching of medicine and the role of physicians in society, issues still relevant today. This document was recovered from the Mario Testa fund, in the Center for Documentation and Research Pensar en Salud (CEDOPS) of the Institute of Collective Health in the Universidad Nacional de Lanús.

Este texto reproduce la carta escrita por Giulio Alfredo Maccacaro (1924-1977) al presidente del Colegio Médico de Milán, publicada en 1972 en el libro La medicine del capitale de Jean-Claude Polack. Luego de más de 40 años, esta reedición en la sección Memoria e Historia tiene por objetivo recuperar la figura de Giulio Maccacaro, no como trayectoria individual, sino inscripto en un movimiento colectivo -junto a Giovanni Berlinguer, Franco Basaglia y tantos otros- que replanteó el papel de la medicina y logró conjugar la práctica científica con un fuerte compromiso social.

This text reprints the letter written by Giulio Alfredo Maccacaro (1924-1977) to the president of the College of Medicine in Milan, published in Jean-Claude Polack's La medicine del capitale [The medicine of capital]. This reedition more than 40 years later, in the section Memory and History, seeks to recover the figure of Giulio Maccacaro not in his individual path but rather as a person inscribed in a collective movement - along with Giovanni Berlinguer, Franco Basaglia and many others - that rethought the role of medicine and combined scientific practice with a strong social commitment.

El texto que reproducimos en este artículo fue escrito y leído por Carlos Matus en la primera presentación del libro Adiós, Señor Presidente realizada en 1987, en Venezuela. Matus describe los problemas de los gobiernos de América Latina de aquellos años para abordar la brecha creciente entre la capacidad de gobierno y la complejidad de los sistemas sociales, que exige teorías, técnicas, sistemas y métodos para desarrollar proyectos de gobierno en los que la gobernabilidad del sistema no sea más baja que la magnitud de los problemas. Este documento fue recuperado del fondo Mario Testa, perteneciente al Centro de Documentación e Investigación Pensar en Salud (CEDOPS) del Instituto de Salud Colectiva de la Universidad Nacional de Lanús.

The text of this article was written by Carlos Matus and read aloud by him at the first presentation of his book Adiós, Señor Presidente [Goodbye, Mr. President] in Venezuela in 1987. Matus describes the problems of the governments of Latin America of that day, in order to address the growing gap between the capacity of governments to govern and the complexity of social systems. For Matus, bridging this gap requires theories, techniques, systems and methods so as to develop government projects in which the governability of the system is not less than the magnitude of its problems. This document was recovered from the Mario Testa fund, in the Center for Documentation and Research Pensar en Salud (CEDOPS) of the Institute of Collective Health in the Universidad Nacional de Lanús.
