The year 2015 is drawing to a close.

Cadernos de Saúde Públic/Reports in Public Health published 15 papers in the Perspectives section this year, consolidating our editorial policy of valuing emerging themes that affect the development of the Public Health field. Our editorials also provided space for publicizing the 4^th World Conference on Research Integrity ¹1. Vasconcelos SMR. We have numerous plans for 2016. The most striking novelty for everyone who accompanies CSP is the end of the journal’s print version. The vast majority of CSP readers currently conduct their reference searches online and read the journal’s online version. Thus, the cost of printing only a few subscriptions on paper and exchanging print journals is no longer justified. In addition, on the positive side, the online version will allow shortening the time between manuscript approval and publication.

Yet the full transition to online means much more than this. Our webpage is intended to express the dynamics and interaction that characterize this environment. Every article will be made available as soon as it is ready and authorized by the authors. Editions will close at the end of each month with everything that was published in the interim. Each article’s page will have space for supplementary material, prioritizing the publication of research instruments, supplementary analyses, and even databases whenever possible. We will also provide space for comments on articles, as long as they are appropriate and properly identified.

However, we do not intend to become a “mega journal” with no limit on the number of articles published. We expect to publish approximately the same total number of articles per year, partly because producing CSP with the journal’s characteristic quality takes time. Each article undergoes language revision, translation of abstracts, text standardization, correction of references, and reassembling of tables and figures (the latter will continue to have the same numerical limit, and may now be submitted in color). Not to mention the process of scientific editing with essential participation by Associate Editors and reviewers, as usual.

The year 2015 has been difficult for Brazil. The country’s political and economic situation has been accompanied by further events that impacted the environment and health, among others the environmental disaster in Mariana, Minas Gerais, caused by the collapse of mining dams, and the severe public health emergency caused by the Zika virus epidemic and the resulting increase in the number of newborns with microcephaly. Brazil’s approaches and solutions to these crises will also be the subject of scientific debate in journals like CSP.

In short, in these difficult times we have plans for growth and change, thus demonstrating our belief in science and scientists’ involvement in the Public Health field. With all the possible problems in 2016, we face the New Year ethically and honestly, believing that we can make our contribution to a better and more equitable world.
