En el aniversario 87 del natalicio del doctor Ernesto Guevara de la Serna, médico revolucionario argentino cubano, hijo legítimo de Nuestra América, este artículo tiene el propósito de contribuir a un mayor acercamiento al pensamiento médico social, interesante faceta de la vida del héroe de la batalla de Santa Clara, del luchador por alcanzar la realización de su sueño africano y su ideario americano, cuyo pensamiento, sensibilidad y ejemplo han trascendido la heroicidad de su acción y el coraje mostrado ante la muerte. Este artículo es un homenaje al joven médico social, que desarrolló tempranamente sus dotes de investigador al reconocer la importancia del valor social de la investigación, de modo que el nuevo conocimiento aportado no estuviera limitado a la descripción de la realidad, sino dirigido especialmente a transformarla. Ante el cuestionamiento de cómo modificar positivamente los determinantes sociales para favorecer la promoción de salud y la prevención de enfermedades, su respuesta fue hacer revolución para convertirse en un médico revolucionario y así contribuir a la modificación de la realidad. ¡Este es el hombre que estamos recordando hoy! ¡Su ejemplo perdurará por siempre!

In the celebration of Dr. Ernesto Guevara´s 87th birthday, a Cuban-Argentinean revolutionary physician, genuine son of our Latin America, this article was aimed at approaching more to his social medical thought, an interesting facet of the life of this hero of Santa Clara battle and of the fighter for materialization of his African dream and his Latin American ideals. His way of thinking, sensitivity and example have gone beyond his heroic action and courage to face death. This article pays homage to a young medical physician who early developed his research qualities when recognizing the importance of the social value of research and the fact that new knowledge should be especially aimed at transforming realities rather than just describing them. When asked about how the social determinants could be changed to support health promotion and disease prevention, his answer was making revolution to become a revolutionary physician and thus contributing to the change of the realities. That is the man we remember today and his example will last forever!
